Bluebird Notes ~ Past Nesting Seasons
LIVE Eastern Bluebird nest box. Meet Rosie and Blue as they raise their baby bluebirds. Just outside of Chattanooga, TN. We have been watching and enjoying Rosie and Blue for years now. They have raised quite a few broods and they are in the area year round. The blues stick around together as a family unit and are such fun to watch.
When it is not Eastern Bluebird nesting season, we have our live cam on our platform bird feeder. It is 15 feet in the air and squirrel proof. After dark the live cam roams the yard and woods for things with glowing eyes. A flying white image just could be Mr. Bat. More infomation below.

7/12/22 Babies are about to fledge! Flapping wings hitting each other in the head.
7/06/22 You might be wondering what the white stuff on the babies is. Well it's poop. Yes, poop, it will come off.
6/29/22 Babies are growing like weeds. When you see them shaking, it is a growth hormone that makes them grow very fast.

2020 Nesting Notes: (Brood #2)
7/19/2020, Watched Blue and baby today, so 5th baby is alive and well.
7/10/2020, The last baby bird fledged today.
7/08/2020, It is so disturbing to think that this has happened. 6 years and never lost any blues to snake/raccoon others. Cleaned out the nest box, ready for 3rd brood if they come back. Put spike strips on bottom of pole. There has always been a baffle. Ordered another cone like baffle to put just below the nest box. Wire cloth on any air holes in nest box.
If you can ID snake, we think it is a corn or rat snake, as they can be the same snake. It came in thru a back air hole of nest box. The size of hole is around the size of 1/2 a quarter. Half moon shape. We have put wire cloth over any holes other than the front door.

2019 Nesting Notes: (Brood #2)
7/08/2019, ALL four babies fledged today. 1:00 PM, EST.
7/08/2019, They grow up so fast. First we are just watching eggs. Then we wait for a pip. They hatch. Pink, naked, strange looking beings. They start to hold up their heads. Then one day you look, they are looking back at you, you see an adult. Soon they will leave the nest. Sweet babies, all. We love you.

6/23/2019, Egg #4 hatched. We have 4 wonderful baby bluebirds.

6/20/2016, Second and third egg started to hatch. Stalled and Rosie & Blue removed them from the nest.

Rosie and Blue are Bluebirds that have been nesting in our yard out by the pond for 7+ years now. We wanted to add a nest cam to see what was going on, but the nest box was too far away. We added a new nesting box in the front, equipped with the new cam and waited, hoping that it was not too late in the season. What a blessing it was to find pine needles in the box only a few days after the new box was put up!
